About Rotterdam

Rotterdam is the Netherlands’ second largest city after Amsterdam. Having been completely rebuilt after WWII, it’s now recognised as a triumph of modern architecture and urban planning. There’s lots to see here, as it boasts a lively nightlife scene with a wide choice of bars and restaurants. Grab something to eat at the eye-catching Markthal in Centrum. It’s an incredible food market offering over 100 different food spots as well as places to shop. But if you’re keen to try a local speciality, order some ‘friet’. These superior Dutch fries are available from stalls and bars all across the city, served with mayonnaise, ketchup, curry sauce, or all three!

For panoramic views of Rotterdam, head up to the visitor platform at the Euromast tower. Other architectural wonders worth seeing include the iconic Erasmus Bridge, De Rotterdam complex, and Cube Houses. As Rotterdam is Europe’s largest seaport, you can book boat tours like the amphibious yellow Splash Tours bus or even a Pancake Cruise. Back on dry land, there are lots of lovely parks and green spaces like Het Park, Zuiderpark and Museumpark where you can enjoy a stroll and a picnic.

If you’ve worked up a thirst, visit one of the city’s many micro-breweries and tap rooms. As well as craft beer, they also love drinking good coffee in Rotterdam. But if gin is your tipple of choice, head over to the Jenever Museum in nearby Sciedam to learn how the famous Dutch spirit took over the world.
