Burgas

Visitors to Bulgaria have started to explore the country more and more in recent years, moving away from the capital of Sofia to some of the lesser known towns and cities including the gorgeous port of Burgas. Sitting in a western bay of Bulgaria’s Black Sea coastline, Burgas has been the main thoroughfare for trade between the east and west dating back to the days of the Roman Empire, which has led to far more growth compared to other Bulgarian cities.

While not traditionally a holiday destination, the city has plenty to offer would-be holidaymakers, including a waterpark, several large shopping malls, botanical gardens, an opera house and plenty of nature walks into the surrounding countryside. Burgas also has particularly good weather in the summer months, often competing with the balmy heats of nearby Turkey. And, thanks to its location in the centre of the Black Sea Coastline, Burgas also makes for a fantastic base to explore the eastern areas of Bulgaria.
