Welcome to London Stansted Airport’s transformation
London Stansted is embarking on a major investment programme to create a world class airport for its passengers, and to unlock the potential of it's runway. This will help us connect people from across London and the East of England to even more global destinations, and give them more choice of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes when they visit us. Our £1.1bn plans include an extension to the existing terminal, a new shoreline check-in hall, improved security hall and skylinks to replace the existing Track Transit System.
The extension will transform the departure lounge into a brighter, more spacious area where passengers can relax, work, shop, or enjoy a meal before their flight. With additional seating, more shops, bars and restaurants, and a new lounge, every passenger will find something that suits their pace and needs.
This transformation also supports London Stansted’s commitment to sustainability, helping the airport reach its net zero carbon goal by 2038 while continuing to serve passengers safely and efficiently.
Shoreline check-in
The check-in experience is being redesigned to make the start of the journey smoother and simpler. Updated desks, additional self-service kiosks, and a more intuitive layout will reduce queues and give passengers more choice in how they begin their journey.
Security hall
The security hall has been completely redesigned with the latest screening technology at every lane. Passengers will move through more quickly and comfortably, with less need to remove personal items from bags. Clearer signage and a simpler layout will guide everyone smoothly through the process, making it quicker, easier, and less stressful.
International departure lounge
Our expanded international lounge will offer more space to relax, shop and dine. A calm, bright environment with a variety of bars, restaurants, and retail options will help passengers feel comfortable and enjoy their time at the airport, whether they want to unwind or make the most of their pre-flight time.
Skylinks
Skylinks will provide a direct, easy-to-follow route to all boarding gates. By replacing the Track Transit System, it will give passengers greater flexibility, more confidence in reaching their gate on time, and a smoother overall experience throughout the terminal.
Domestic arrivals
The new domestic arrivals facilities make coming home or connecting onwards easier than ever. With clearer walkways, better access to trains, buses, taxis and car parks, and a welcoming, modern environment, passengers can transfer easily and quickly from the aircraft to their onward journey.
